Velana International Airport previously known as Ibrahim Nasir International Airport is located on Hulhule Island in the North Male’ Atoll, near the capital island Male’. Velana is the family name of the Maldives’ second President, Ibrahim Nasir. Operated by Maldives Airports Company Limited, it is the hub for 10 domestic destinations, and is the hub for the national airline, Maldivian. The airport provides connections to more than 30 international destinations, and serves more than 30 international airlines.
The airport serves as a single point connection to the multiple modes of transportation such as ferries, sea planes and domestic airlines which in turn are connected to resorts.
Local boats or dhonis are the most common means of water transport and they run every few minutes between the airport and Male’. High speed transport is also available from the Airport to the Capital City Male’.
If you have a booking at a resort, the transfer is usually arranged for you prior to your arrival into the country.
Velana International hosts the biggest sea plane operations in the world. You can enjoy either Trans Maldivian Airways or Maldivian Air taxi for your spectacular journey to your resort island.
There are also two Major Domestic Airlines operating in Maldives – “Maldivian” by Island Aviation Services and “Fly Me” by Villa Air.
